Supporter Commitment & Responsibilities

Supporters play a vital role in the Trans Baviaans experience — offering encouragement, assistance, and energy when it’s needed most. However, choosing to be a supporter is a serious commitment and must be approached with care and responsibility.

Only riders who have officially registered with a support crew are allowed to receive assistance — and only within designated areas at specific checkpoints, such as Checkpoint 5.

By choosing to be a Supporter, you commit to:

  • Supporting your team, the event, and any rider in need of help
  • Respecting all event rules, safety protocols, and environmental guidelines
  • Fully understanding the responsibilities outlined in the Supporter Guide

Failure to comply with the event’s guidelines may lead to penalties or disqualification of the rider you support. Inappropriate, unsafe, or inconsiderate behavior by support crews can also be formally reported by other riders or officials at any checkpoint or at the finish line.

Being a supporter is a privilege. Treat it with the respect it deserves — for the sake of your team, fellow participants, and the event as a whole.

What You’ll Receive as a Supporter

Being a supporter at the Trans Baviaans means more than just showing up — it means being part of the experience. To recognize your role and ensure a smooth event, each official supporter will receive the following:

  • Official Supporter T-Shirt

Show you’re part of the team! Your exclusive Supporter T-shirt identifies you as a key part of your rider’s journey — wear it with pride during the event.

  • Supporter Badge

This is your official identification during the event. It grants you access to designated areas like Checkpoint 5 and the Finish Line Support Zone. Keep it with you at all times to assist your rider where permitted.

  • Support Vehicle Sticker

This windshield sticker must be displayed on your vehicle. It allows entry into authorized areas at Checkpoint 5 and the finish area. No access will be granted without it.

  • Spur Burger at the Finish Line

After a long day of supporting, refuel with a delicious Spur burger — our way of saying thank you for being part of the Trans Baviaans community.

Whether you’re navigating mountain roads, handing over gear, or cheering from the sidelines, your support makes a world of difference. We’re proud to have you on the team!

OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE

To ensure a fair and consistent race experience for all participants, riders are not permitted to receive outside assistance along the route or at any checkpoints — with the exception of Checkpoint 5, where registered support crews are welcome to assist within designated areas.

Riders may only receive help from fellow competitors or official race personnel during the event.

To maintain the integrity of the race, any violations may be reported by race organizers, officials, or fellow riders, and could result in penalties for the team involved.

Support Vehicle Restrictions

In accordance with directives from the Eastern Cape Parks Board, no support vehicles will be allowed to travel through the Baviaanskloof during the event.

This measure is in place to:

  • Limit vehicle traffic within the protected wilderness area
  • Ensure the safety of riders on narrow and rugged terrain
  • Protect the natural environment of the Baviaanskloof Reserve

Support crews must access Checkpoint 5 via the Langkloof route, through Uniondale and Joubertina. This rule will be strictly enforced by Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism at the reserve’s entrance gate.

Support Crew Cooperation

Support crews are expected to cooperate with Race Officials and Checkpoint Captains, especially in situations where safety or logistics require coordination. We ask that all support personnel follow instructions respectfully to help maintain a smooth and safe race environment for everyone.

Thank you for being part of the Trans Baviaans community and for respecting the guidelines that help make this event possible.
